Probate Law
What is probate?
In a very small nutshell, “probate” is the legal process by which a deceased loved one safely and securely transfers property to surviving family members.
How, though, can a loved one transfer property after passing away?
After passing away, your loved one’s property automatically becomes part of his or her “estate.” The probate process then transfers that property from the estate to your family. Your family will then not only receive the property your loved one wished to give, but probate ensures that your family receives it safely and securely.
You might have a lot of questions at this point. Why is probate necessary? Does my family need probate? My mother recently passed away and left a will. What do we do now, and what happens to her property?
